Praises on high! This website that has been brewing in my brain and computer for almost 2 years (what!?) is finally here. I am actually sitting here refreshing the URL hoping all our hard work will pop up and throw glitter all over the studio... holding my breath... IT'S LIVE!! YAY!

A gigantic thanks to my husband, my family and friends who have been calling, emailing, tweeting, and texting me this morning, the two lovely ladies who helped me finish out the collection, my current clients + those of you who took a chance on a girl with a dream in the past, my printer, my programmer, and my portrait photographer. Real credits to come.

Our fancy new blog on the website is having a little trouble this morning - but when we make the switch to the new blog I will let you all know!

Thank you all for paying attention to what's going on in MaeMaeLand and for helping achieve my dreams!

Website Launch - Oct. 25!!

3 / Oct. 6 - MY 26TH BDAY! nothing but the oldies. too bad I didn't think to move the pencil before shooting... so excited for this new year. new places to go, new things to accomplish!
4 / yes. MaeMae will be doing WAX SEALS!! baller. shot caller.
5 / the album mock-up. I am working with three different people to make this happen. and they all rock. and so will the album.
6 / calendars.... ahh!
7 / I made 16 greeting cards. buy some postage + get your pen ready.
8 / celebratory banner from my bestie, Whit. DOFCH = Dome Of Foam Coming Home. a phrase from the swim team days. aka kick hard. it's taken on a whole new meaning. thanks for the support, whitters.
9 / notebook from Rose that chronicles the 2011 collection: all the things I'm making, specs, pricing, etc. pretty much as important as THE CHECKLIST. but prettier.
10 / all 250 pages of proofs for the wedding collection. 5 people have looked over it. I told you - thorough!!
11 / my newest friend - the eraser. some people think it's brave to use pen. it's braver to acknowledge things are going to change. and to be ok with it.
12 / address stamp collection - kind of my favorite thing.

Total Maj Moment

I am trying to write this without bursting into tears. Oh. Too late. Here they come...

Rose and I "met" in June 2010 after she emailed me in regards to my internship - the only problem - she lived in New Zealand! There was just something about the message she sent me and her sweet blog that made me feel like there could be something there. Since then she has assisted me from afar and we got to know one another through postcards, packages and Skype.

At the beginning of this year she told me that she and her boyfriend, Scott, were "keen" on coming to Lancaster so she could work in the studio with me. WHAT?! I felt so overwhelmed by the idea. It seemed too generous. Too big. She was willing to travel across this world to sit in my little studio? She said she was. So she came! And I will never be the same.

Rose just lit up my heart with her cheerfulness every morning and passion for her craft and MaeMae. With hers and Katie's help we have finished the wedding collection and a little social stationery collection (launch next month!). But not only did we get a lot of beautiful work done these last 6 weeks (I am just bursting to show you all!) but I learned so much from Rose about what it means to be passionate, risk everything for your dreams, and how to be a superb friend. She is a gem and I miss her immensely. I have found a kindred spirit in her and am so excited for her as she pursues design full time when she returns home. I could go on and on about how lovely and fabulous Rose is but I will end up like last night when I had to say goodbye to her - crying in bed and then consuming an entire loaf of French bread with a stick of butter.

Rose - you have forever changed me and the way I view the world. Can't wait until we are reunited. Thank you for everything. I am taking good care of the basil plant, Wally, and still polishing off the Hello Dollys.

Meet Winston (and Rose!)

It has been quite the journey from starting up MaeMae in my college studio to working on my debut wedding collection album that is launching next month. I have learned so much about the creative process, customer service, and asking for help. These past two weeks have been fully dedicated to getting the collection to the printers and I could NOT have done it without my fab assistant Katie and my intern - ROSE! Rose has been doing work for MaeMae from far away (New Zealand!) for the past year and this summer made the long journey all the way to my studio to wok here. If that doesn't blow your mind I don't know what will. We are having so much fun designing away and learning NZ lingo (my favorite word is "roggie" = roger aka OK).

Monday Must with Marysia Swim

This spring and summer I have been working with the extremely talented designer behind one of the most beautiful swim collections - Marysia Swim. Even though I've asked her several times, I just don't get where she comes up with so many fresh and innovative designs for her swimwear. So brilliant. Marysia and I worked to make her brand more bold + modern. We worked on her lookbook (which is where I got that sneak peek photo in the inspo board above!) and lots of other printed pieces for the fashion shows this summer. Check out her last collection here. Marysia graciously asked me to create my "Monday Must List" for her blog. This is what I'm musting!

/ 1 / Beyonce's 4 album. I listen to it when I wake up, work, clean, cook, workout, you name it. I even got a bruise dancing in my office when I ran into the door jam. Wow. TMI. You have to watch this video of the making of her album. I've watched it 4 times. Inspiring for all creative females (and business owners!) / 2 / Kate Spade notecards. Brilliant cards to send to a friend for having you over for a dinner party. Cheeky yet classy. / 3 / Jill Sander skirt. Her last collection was beyond beyond beyond. I love the styling in this photo as well. / 4 / Eberjay Colette Bra. Amazing underneath something sheer. Best by itself though... / 5 / Olimpia Zagnoli's illustrations. I can't get enough of Jill Sander's last collection and a framed piece from Olimpia Zagnoli in my bedroom would be perfection. / 6 / Diane Von Furstenberg iPhone case in hot pink. Purchasing today. LOVE. I have been waiting for half a year for her to finally make it for the new iPhone. Gotta look chic texting away. / 7 / Alessi Calumet watch in orange. I love the simplicity and boldness of this watch. It feels feminine - but not soft. / 8 / Covergirl LipPerfection. Best lipstick - EVER. And I've tried them all - and then never wear them anywhere. I actually wear this out. Daring. Who knew you could buy it at TARGET for $5! Stays on all day, not drying, and the compliments won't stop when you're wearing it. I recently had a 3 year old tell me she liked my "chapstick." I'm winning them all. I have it in their two brightest shades - Spellbound (bright pink) and Flame (hot red). / 9 / Miu Miu glitter + suede bow peep toe. What's not to love! The shape is brilliant, the mix of warm leather and girly glitter is perfection. The heel is sturdy and not sky-high so you can actually wear these all day with something more toned down. / 10 / Marysia Swim Sardina maillot. The most fashionable take on the classic red swim suit. Watch out, Pamela. And PS it's reversible! Come to mama!

Debra is an illustrator and animator and she created the sweetest and most hysterical polroid illustration series of her and Josh's relationship/life that was sent in a box along with the tags and invitations I designed. Creative Adrenaline

One of the hardest things about being creative for a living is moving steadily (or at a million miles an hour!) forward daily instead of waiting for a stroke of inspiration to hit you. Sometimes in the middle of a project you just get that creative adrenaline rush and for me it reminds me of racing (when I used to swim in high school and college). You feel so strong and filled with energy. But most days aren't like that which is why I try to arm myself with a toolbox of font, illustration, color, and style elements that represent the MaeMae brand. I also am always collecting images - on my phone, on my computer, and all over my studio walls. Last Friday I had one of those creative adrenaline rushes and was hurriedly grabbing a bunch of inspiration off my walls and flipping through the four (yes - four) notebooks I am currently taking notes in to start designing some of my social stationery collections. The above images are from various magazines, newspapers, and books and are hanging on my three bulletin boards, and my walls. It's so funny to me how amongst all the things I have up that these images are so cohesive and perfectly represent the mood of what I am working on. Smith + Smith

The (stunning!!!) bride, Erin, had a vision to pull snippets from this other design I had created earlier that year for her own wedding stationery. My favorite part of designing stationery is variation, so to take one design and turn it around for something fresh is so much fun. Erin and Casey's last names are both Smith so created the Smith Squared logo for the wedding and I LOVED see it on the beer glasses that they used for give their guests as gifts filled with their family's own tap. WOWIE.

A Stamped Fête

Oftentimes I try to ~~push~~ suggest new ideas to clients for printing or presentation. Dana was such a champ and jumped on board with the stamp invitation idea. I first made a rough design in the computer and after editing that together I hand drew the invitation, extra info piece, and address stamp to make them feel, well, hand-drawn. Those designs were turned into a huge stamp, medium stamp, and little stamp respectively that Dana and her bridesmaids stamped onto kraft paper. Yay, baby.

So thankful to have two different pieces in local Brides Magazines! The first piece was just in the New York edition and the second piece was in every local edition!! I was also very lucky to go to lunch with the editor, Heather, while I was in NYC. YAY!

As I work on my wedding collection that is launching in September (!!!) I have been creating characters to design each stationery suite around. This character is a lover of both the desert and sea. Georgia on my Mind

I have two types of favorite clients: 1) those who give me very little info because because they just want me to run with it 2) those who have a brilliant vision and come with lots of inspiration and excitement in their eyes. Megan, the bride for which these pieces were created, was the second type of client. When we met she came armed with a variety of inspiration - lipstick colors, over-sized postcards, photos of her family's beautiful garden, pillows, and food. YES.

The save the dates were double-sided letterpress printed on dangerously thick chipboard (and by that I mean it's like a mini weapon) and topped off with edge printing. The envelopes were kraft paper with brown letterpress and metallic gold foil.

More Martha, More Dreams

I saw someone post about the new Martha Stewart Magazine on Saturday right before I was headed off to a friend's wedding. I dropped everything, hustled to Target and frantically started thumbing through the pages to find - yes! - there was my stamp !!!! I think I was smiling for about an hour straight after that (and then smiled more at the wedding after, of course!) Mind you I had an alarm set to go off Monday since I thought that's when it was coming out, so when the alarm went off yesterday I just smiled and looked over at the mag on my desk.

Two years ago I made a list of goals for my business and emailed them to Jae. When shuffling through his desk a few weeks ago I found the email printed out and as I looked through the goals for each year I was so happy to see I was keeping up with my dreams! These were my 2011 goals:

1. build wedding line of 20 suites (done!)
2. get featured in Martha Stewart weddings (done!)
3. visit the National Stationery Show (done!)

Thank you to all of my supporters and friends out there for encouraging me and helping me achieve my goals! Time to start dreaming some more up...

Back in Action + a Little Martha

Hello, Bloggies!! I missed you all and am excited to be back in action. The first half of this year has been formative, challenging, and joyous. I became an aunt to the sweetest little girl, Ava Jayne, I spent Mother's Day with mom for the first time in six years, I traveled to NYC and feel in love with a new city, eight stores across the country will be carrying my new wedding stationery collection in September (!!), I am returning to the Valley Ho in Scottsdale for an early third wedding anniversary this week with Jae, and my fabulous intern, Katie, has agreed to stay on as my assistant! WOW WOW WOW! Glory!

I had the privilege of working with Enjoy Events Co. on a shoot for Martha Stewart's Wedding Blog that was posted last Friday. I have to say that my eyes were kind of bugging out of my head as I looked through the gorgeous work that Megan + Emily had put together and the beautiful way that Kate captured it all. I am obsessed with the violin casts! AH! How do you even find that?! I love how the shoot is a great mix of interesting textures and themes that fit so perfectly together - not matchy matchy. The stationery is from the Dakota suite and I will be sharing the inspo board on Friday.

Full speed ahead. MaeMae is in full force creative explosion sparkly fiesta. Is that even a thing? So many new custom wedding suites and completed branding to come, but here is a little update on the studio.

The craziness of this year would NOT be possible without my new glittery intern, Katie. She is heaven sent. She has tirelessly been assembling my goodie bag for Hitched and makes my life so much better. And it's always great to have company in the studio three days a week! (sorry that you have to listen to me play The Black Keys CD on constant repeat...) Check out her fun blog here.

The new collection will be finished in mid-February... aka two weeks. aka AHH! I received four of the fifteen collection proofs today and so overjoyed that this is finally happening! If you're coming to HITCHED this Sunday you will get to see them :)

Like most artists I have an abundance of inspiration everywhere: all over my walls, in old boxes, tins, and folders, on bookshelves, scribbled into a mishmash of notebooks, electronically in a bajillion different folders on my computer, on my phone... man it never ends. While I am still keeping up all those other collections going strong I now have another source to store images on. I started to use Pinterst and am enjoying it immensely. One of my favorite parts is just how all the collected images look together. The two photos above on the right side looked so good randomly stacked on one another. Love those moments.

These two features above have made me giddy these past two weeks. The first is an interview I did for Evie S's blog Things of Beauty about my creative process. It was so therapeutic to put into words some things I have been really thinking about and changing. The second feature was on the Martha Stewart wedding blog, The Bride's Guide. They asked for images that no one had seen yet so I had to store up some projects. I will be featuring them in the next few weeks. What really touched my heart was three sweet friends of mine who shared the good news about Martha on their blogs. Thanks, Whit, Ru, and Blythe!! xx

Branches & Light Workshop

Last summer (which seems so far away now!) I worked with Caroline Joy + Nancy Ray to create branding for their photography workshop: Branches & Light. The workshop aims to assist other female photographers take their love for photography and create small business. They outline the topics they will be addressing at both the Dallas + Raleigh workshops on their website. My favorite of the topics is "overcoming fear and embracing freedom in business." Beautifully put!

I also created Caroline's branding which I will showcase before their second workshop in a few weeks!

As I go through the process of creating characters to model my collection after it has been such a pleasure to discover new "friends." If you don't know her - meet Carmen Miranda. The original Brazilian bombshell. The actress + singer boldly showed off her curves and vivacious personality while dancing in teetering platform sandals and donning a hat topped with fruit. Get it girl.

These little beauts were letterpress printed onto blush colored Italian paper. How glitterific is the shape of the envelope flap. Amazeglitts. I've been pretty obsessed with blush + black for, well this year. Thanks, Sharon + Daniel! I know you will have a magical wedding.

P.S. I Picked up the nifty little vintage match sets in Santa Barbie last weekend. We didn't want to buy any turquoise jewelry from the owner of the shop (she was hustling those babies on us) and she got pretttttty mad. We ducked and ran past the shop for the rest of the weekend. Worth it.

P.P.S. Happy November! I like this month. Don't know why. Just do. Oh, and I'm going on a beachy vacation in a few days. So maybe that's why it's a fav now. And when I used to live in Scottsdale November is the tops for weather. So good. And pumpkin pie is on the horizon. One thanksgiving we had rice instead of mashies! I love Gwyneth. As in Paltrow. Obviously.

My favorite character she has played is Margot Tenenbaum from the brilliant film The Royal Tenenbaums. I love the way all the players in the story are so distinct and oddly relatable (in parts). You know how some actors just "are" a particular character they played? Gwyneth is Margot to me.

Business Card Stamp

My bestie Whit has always been an inspiration to me. She may even be the cause of my current rubber stamp obsession. Since we were young she has always been an avid stamp collector and everyone was talking about when she created party invitations from a huge dress rubber stamp (seen above). Of course I had my mom drive me to the nearest Michaels and bought one too. Duh. And I still have it.

Whit has grown up to be a beautiful artist and currently works as the display coordinator at Anthroplogie. Wow. No biggie. Her talents span far beyond creating beautiful window and other installation displays. She is a marvelous painter and sculptor. These are her new business cards created from a stamp so that she can switch up her ink and paper choices whenever she wants. You can also use them to create letterheads!

Twenty Five

Today is my twenty-fifth birthday! I don't think I have been so excited for a birthday since I turned sixteen - you can drive, you're half way through high school, you're a legit teenager. While I might not be gaining any rights in the world for turning 25 I feel like I have arrived in the grownup world finally. I know I look young for my age (I was asked last summer what year I was in high school... hmmm... ) but I'm not going to let that bother me anymore because guess what world, I'm a quarter century old!

Above are photos from my sixteenth birthday party my parents threw for me in our backyard. I had about 20 of my favorite girlfriends over and we had dinner around the pool and danced in the gazebo. Most fun EVER.

Muriel Suite - City Version

Muriel has been such a fun suite to work on. If you haven't seen the other versions, Muriel also comes in a mountain + palm tree theme. Named after my grandma who recently passed, it was a very emotional process to create the very last version - the city version. It was also a very special time to remember her as I photographed them all.

My favorite part of this suite is the three different thank you notes: joint as well as his and hers. I have found that some couples like to use the stationery even after the wedding. Having separate versions is the perfect way to extend their life on your desk!

Bride's Magazine

So excited to have three different stationery pieces in Brides Southern California Magazine!! A magnet I created for Matt + Aly as well as my very own save the date (from the first ever MaeMae blog post... with a sideways picture. awesome.) was featured in a special save the date story. How funny that my own face is in there?!?! I also think it's funny/sweet/ironic how many layers of photos are in that save the date: the photo itself is a photo of a photo, Brides took a photo of the postcard to put in the story, and I took a photo of the mag! Four layers? Thank you to Shannon Leith who originally took that engagement photo.

The other invitation suite I create especially for a story that was about how to create a wedding theme based on a runway look. My designer was Bottega Veneta and the Spring 2010 ready-to-wear collection we focused on had lots of white with shots of bright fuchsia, turquoise, and yellow. The cake that was created for the story and my stationery look so similar! I wonder if the baker got a sneak peak of my pieces or if we just think so much alike. Love it.

Rue Studio Tour

Rue Magazine launched today and I am so thrilled (understatement!) and honored to be a part of it. Founded by two style-setting bloggers, Crystal + Anne, Rue is a beautiful interior + design focused online publication. I had the privilege of working with the two editors on a free download for the readers and two of the magazine's story designs AND had the great pleasure of meeting the fantastic interior photographer, Laure Joliet, for my studio tour styled by one of my favorite friends and genius stylist, Summer Watkins. Above is a mix of photos both from Laure and myself as well as the story that is in Rue. I am so thankful for the chance to work with other creative people who love to both inspire and make beautiful things.

Goppy Gow + Gumpa

When I was little I was always jealous of the other kids in class whose grandparents had normal names like, "grandma + grandpa." My brothers and I called our maternal grandparents by their Chinese titles: PoaPoa (grandma) and Gong Gong (grandpa). As a toddler my paternal grandma wanted me (the eldest grandchild) to call her "grandmother." That didn't really roll out easily of my two-year-old mouth and so I called my grandparents Goppy Gow (grandma) and Gumpa (grandpa). Made up words and phrases were kind of my thing. As I grew older I came to love the fact that they were uniquely mine through my renaming of them.

I lost Gumpa last Thanksgiving and yesterday my Goppy Gow passed away.

She was full of life, energy, and opinions. She always wore this stack of different sized and designed gold bangles on one arm and they would make so much noise whenever she would do anything. They are the perfect representation of her: unique, multifaceted, attention getting, and a little over the top. She was from Ireland and one of my favorite memories of her was when my dad got her to show me her Irish dancing (think Riverdance...) in her living room. Growing up she was some sort of celebrity in my world. She seemed so glamorous and knew all these little tidbits about how to do things right or politely that I never thought of.

Her personality and vivaciousness live on through my work today through my collection Muriel, named after her. I love you, Goppy Gow. Your memory, lessons, and style will always be such a part of me.

Everyone Needs at Least One Rubber Stamp

Stamps have become my latest obsession. I feel like I peer pressure all my clients to make a rubber stamp with me. Thankfully they all cave :) But really they are so genius. Mealy Getting Married!!

My sweet friend Molly married her best friend Zack in June and I had the pleasure of working on some stationery for her and celebrating the big day with her back home in Arizona. I met Molly in high school, got to know her better on a trip to Africa, and spent every Sunday one semester in college going to church and then eating Wahoo's Fish + Taco's on the beach together. Every time we ordered at Whaoo's they would ask our name but spell it very oddly on our boxes. One day I was "Migon" and she was "Mealy." Who knew our names were so hard to spell! This is my dream bride. Sara + Ronnie are getting married in Michigan at an old museum. Sara approved all the pieces in the FIRST ROUND of proofs. Kidding me. I about died. I loved this theme so much it is being added to the collection, baby! Of course I'm naming it Ronnie. The formal is double-sided letterpressed onto the thickest (220 lb) cotton paper. I was so fascinated by the pattern the stack of invites and how dang high 50 invites stood. All the other pieces are letterpressed as well.

Muriel Suite Comes to Life

The Muriel Suite comes with three different options: palm trees (shown), mountains (you can see here), and a city skyline. Originally created to be just to be shown with mountains, the clever couple who this set was created for wanted to do palm trees and then while visiting my studio suggested cityscape for the third option. I should really rename the whole suite Stacie + Evan! Thanks for the help! You can download the current wedding collection here. The Wonders of Print Yourself

My goal through MaeMae is to widen the traditional spectrum of who can afford beautifully designed stationery sets. I offer flat printing (unlimited colors) on cotton letterpress paper, letterpress, and a surprisingly popular option: print yourself. All of the full service printing options are printed on the most beautiful fluffy cotton paper and are enclosed in super thick matching envelopes or saturated color envelopes. The print yourself option is so perfect for the bride who has a smaller budget, access to a great local print shop or personal at home printer, and has a great do it yourself spirit. It has also become a great additive to brides who are doing really elaborate mailed wedding suites and want to save a little on the reception pieces.

If you choose to go the print yourself option the design process will be the exact same as if we were printing it for you. You can choose either a collection suite or we can do custom. When you are ready to print I will set up a few pieces per page with crop marks and printing instructions for yourself or a third party printer.

I have had brides who own gocco machines, letterpresses, or are planning on silk screening all the pieces. Others love creating things by hand for their wedding and need some assistance with the designing.

This particular suite was a print at home suite that I printed on my $100 printer in my studio. Pretty amazing right!?? All I used was some basic tools that anyone who has ever made a craft probably has:

This save the date panel piece is for Cameron + Andy's wedding on Atlas, the family farm in Columbus, Mississippi. I am itching to finish the rest of the suite.

MaeMae is Hiring!

When I moved into my new studio I wanted TWO desks. My main mega one for designing, paper work, etc and a second one for crafting. I convinced the good ol' hubs to let me get that second desk but have never used it for crafting. I did try to use it for a while for packaging, but it ended up being covered in endless stacks of stationery, envelopes, and calligraphy samples.

I have cleaned off the sweet desk, put up a bulletin board, plugged in my laptop, stocked it with scrap paper, pens, pencils, scissors, 4 kinds of tape, wrapping paper, tags, and baker's twine, and now need some super creative and hardworking interns to sit at it!!

I loved the set up so much I actually sat there for about an hour doing emails.

We are accepting 3-6 month internships (non-paid) for those interested in the design + stationery industry. School credit preferred though not required. After completing the internship, paid positions for junior designer + office manager may be offered.

An interns duties would include:
+ illustrating
+ typesetting
+ text proofing
+ prepping files for print
+ packaging + shipping
+ quoting + invoicing

The required skills for the position:
+ proficiency in Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop
+ great understanding of type design, composition, and color theory
+ consistent availability
+ open to new ideas + learning
+ respectful, great communicator, exemplarily work ethic
+ tidy + organized

If you invite someone to your house you want to make sure it is picked up and smells good. If you invite someone to your blog don't you want it to be all cleaned up and purdy? Hello! YES! What got you interested in web/blog design?
A little over a year ago, I moved to Mississippi and started my blog Busy Thoughts to keep my family updated on my life. I had never blogged before but I quickly became addicted. I started to follow other blogs and began to realize what a difference the design of a blog could make to the reader's experience. A great blog design can say everything about the blogger. I started playing around with HTML code and teaching myself the web basics through trial and error, redesigning Busy Thoughts over and over. Soon, I was asking family and friends if I could design blogs for them just as an excuse to feed my new hobby. I was hooked and eager to learn more. Right around the holidays, it finally clicked in my mind that people get paid to do this for a living... why couldn't that be me?

Where will you be receiving further education for design?
I will be going back to school (May 1st) to receive my Advanced Professional Certificate in Web Design with a dual concentration in advanced web design and graphic design. It is an 18-month, fully hands-on training program through Sessions College for Professional Design that will give me all the tools I need to reach my ultimate career goal of a freelance web designer.

What services do you currently offer and for what blog platforms?
When it comes to blog design, I cover everything! Design concept, custom template, personalized header, layout formatting, basic blogger training... you name it! I pride myself on creating unique blog designs that truly reflect each individual blogger's personality, inspiring the authors to write and enticing others to read. Currently I am offering blog design services for only the blogger platform, but by early summer I will have the programming to accommodate the Wordpress blogging platform as well. So thankful for all the features these past two weeks!!

Love. It's the big idea.

Oh my. Was this fun. Utterly Enaged created a tablescape competition between wedding vendors in the SoCal area. I was on the (absolute best!) team which consisted of Sweet + Saucy, So Happi Together, and good ol' MaeMae Paperie. Nancy from So Happi created this genius theme and put it all together, I created all the designs, and Melody from S+S made all the delightful treats + sweets.

The requirements were to take our own twist on a modern tablescape. We created a "brand" for the wedding which was "Love. It's the big idea" and the logo was a light bulb with a heart inside. The couple was a pastry chef + an engineer, Polly + Edison. Mel crafted cookies and the decorations for the cake from my illustrations. You haven't lived until you eat something with your design on it.

My favorite element was all the paper we used in place of traditional elements. The table runner was paper and the place mats were also paper. The two place mats also acted as escort cards with the names on the top.

I have saved Mel's cookies for 3 months... they were even prettier (if possible) back in the day. I have been afraid I was going to have an ant problem in the studio, but I carefully preserved them for this photo shoot.

We didn't win the popular vote, but we were selected as an editor's pick in the latest online mag. Thanks, Lucia!

Valentine's Gift Turned New Pet

My sweet Jae gave me a Valentine's bouquet from which I found a new BFF. This funny little guy is a fighter.

DAY ONE.
Living happily with his other friends in my mom's old rice container, turned my paintbrush container, turned vase.

DAY TWENTY ONE.
The only survivor. He creeped between my blinds in search of light.

DAY TWENTY TWO.
Given a second chance at life in an old vanilla bottle.

DAY TWENTY THREE.
Making new friends in the studio. Happy in the sunlight.

Studio: Bulletin Board

The irony of this is that my whole studio is a bulletin board. I recently decided this board would be for small things. It's time to start enforcing tryouts. Anything larger than 4 inches in any direction will be kicked off. Cut throat.

6. Made my mom gift tags for Christmas and she converted this one to a hang tag and gave me some beautiful homemade earrings for Valentine's Day.

How was first Week of March, bloggies? I am just dying to bust out the shorts + swimsuits. Let there be summer. I have been so fascinated and influenced by these contemporary artists who have a retro swagger. Love the texture of line drawings on top of a pattern or swatch of color. So simple and yet the end result has so much richness. Retro is the new modern. For design at least. Hair/clothes, no thanks.

Jan + Ben Escort Cards

These little die cut nuggets were used for the escort cards at Jan + Ben's wedding at the Roosevelt two weekends ago. Betsy did the calligraphy and Jan, her parents, and I hole-punched these and tied either a peacock feather, a bleached peacock feather, or a jewel (each indicated their meal choice) and they were hung from three trees at the reception. Jan was rocking some major ideas throughout this whole wedding process! Can't wait to share the profesh photos from the wedding (and the other reception pieces... for some reason can't find those files... re-shoot!). Congrats J + B! xxx

These little babies were created for an extremely creative + innovative couple. Scottee works on designing sets for movies + shows and she is taking that expertise to her wedding as well! When Scottee + I met for lunch to chat about her vision for her wedding I was BLOWN AWAY! She has a wedding artist, designer, and coordinator who are creating hand painted backdrops + little birdie cake toppers amongst a million other delightful details for their emporium + vintage Savannah themed affair. A first for MaeMae... collage flat printed with letterpress type! I think this just opened a whole new realm for the studio. What do you think? Try more in this style?

Walter Suite

The 2010 Collection has a new addition, the Walter Suite. Walter met his wife, Jane, a nurse, at the hospital she was working at. While they say love at first sight doesn't last, the two shared over fifty years together within which they moved to a new country, started a grocery store + a small real estate empire, had five children + fourteen grandchildren, of which I am one. Their wedding was filled with every friend + relative, fireworks, pinwheels, dancing, and nine course banquet.

Got this goodie bag from the insanely talented Betsy Dunlap + proceeded to photograph it like it was going out of style.

What do you think her grocery lists look like? I have to ask my hubby what I write down on my lists because all the letters run together (and sometimes I forget letters...).

I need to up my game on my sample packs. Notice the "sample" tag attached to the glassine bag with Japanese tape. WHAT!

Probably going to frame the M and treasure it forever. Do you see that frame around it? Hand done. Seamless. I don't even get it.
